Markus Degerman (Stockholm, 1972) lives and works in Stockholm. A trained artist and architect, his activities encompass exhibitions, designing, curatorial work, theorising and teaching. His work as an artist often relates to spatial design in various environments, such as public spaces, urban spaces and art institutions. By making additions or alterations to the often-familiar design of the environments he draws attention to the social and political implications written into the formal aspects of space. In this sense, his work could be said to explore the potential for different approaches to design in relation to the qualities and values of a specific context. Besides his own artistic practice, Degerman is also involved in the art, design and architecture group Uglycute.
